Tips for DIYing Your Wedding

Updated: Oct 24, 2020

Hey everyone! Let's talk about DIY projects for your wedding or event. This was submitted on a recent poll as an item that cause stressed leading up to your wedding day.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

DIY can be super tempting in an effort to reduce costs. And sometimes, DIY is a great option! Before choosing whether to DIY or rent, it's important to consider:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- DIY is always more time intensive than you think it will be. Estimate how much time you think a project might take, and then double it. Consider what your time is worth and if you want to be spending it in this way.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Do you enjoy DIYing? A simple but important question.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Who can you ask for help? You don't have to craft alone. Maybe you have some willing friends or family members who would love to craft the place cards or table numbers for you as a partial gift. Release the desire to micromanage and let them help. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Consider cost. Piece together all the various components of the DIY project and what it will cost, and then compare to how much it would cost to rent or outsource. Consider that cost differential and if it's REALLY worth it. Oftentimes, DIY costs add up quickly and you don't end up saving as much as you had thought.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Consider logistics. Where are you storing all of these items? How are they getting delivered to the venue? Who is setting them up? Who is packing them up and bringing them home? What will you do with them after the wedding?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There is something SO glorious about a rental. Why? Because someone delivers, sets up, and takes everything away. None of your responsibility.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I appreciate a couple of manageable DIY projects, but before you commit, think about these questions and consider whether renting or outsourcing would be the better route. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
